Uploading files from www with Ubuntu Server OS
I have root access to server with Ubuntu Server OS via SSH. I want to install nexuiz dedicated server. But first thing - I need to upload it to a server. Question how, excluding ftp? I tried:
Fail. Wget doesn't work if address isn't direct path to exact file.
I tried Lynx as well - fail again. It even doesn't work for http://downloads.sourceforge.net. (I have error - can't establish connection) Why, i don't know because I tested Lynx for 3-4 example sites and it worked. I can of course do something like this:
And with GUI this task can be manage by a child. But I'm affraid of mess this command could create - it will install nearly 900 new packets which I had to deinstall after uploading Nex (and I'm linux noob ). Probably there will be to many dependities and one single command can't deinstall everything what was installed. And it have to be deinstalled coz I need this server as secure LAMP server, not now but for couple months for sure. So this command is really last resort.
Any ideas how to solve this problem?

Why dont you ssh into that server and just do apt-get install nexuiz? With ssh you "are" user on that machine, imagine you are there sitting there in front of it. You can do anything.
For simple file transfer... http://technostuff.blogspot.com/2008/10/some-useful-socat-commands.html
See "file transfer".
You know you can do it with ssh too? "cp file.zip user@ipaddress"
Or...

Re: Uploading files from www with Ubuntu Server OS
Thx Cookie. But unfortunately even this suggestions won't help
I didn't wrote here why not ftp - I have configured ftps access to my server and I can theoretically upload any file from my local machine to it. But there is one problem - at home I have very unstable 2Mb/256kb ADSL connection. Nex 2.5.2 zip file (over 800MB) will be uploaded at least couple hours. But speed isn't big problem I could leave transfer active and go to sleep if my connection don't hang at least once for 2-3 hours (sometimes even 3 times per hour).
I was trying to find a way not involving my local machine - just download file from www directly to my server. But i have no GUI so no graphical browser like firefox, only command line. So was trying to use shell commands to download Nex and so far I failed coz I don't find any Nex 2.5.2 file with direct (ftp or http) public access.
And about install Nex:
I give up. I need just unpack Nex locally and via ftp transfer it to server file by file Maybe after week I can finish it.
